Some friends passed down an iPad and a Bluetooth keyboard case to go with it. For the longest time, I thought, “I’ve got a laptop. Why do I need this?” However, it’s turned out to be the absolutely perfect arrangement for days I teach trumpet lessons at the middle school . I can take notes on each lesson, email instructions to students, and browse Oppo between lessons. It’s also not the end of the world if it gets broken or stolen. It has its non-laptop shortcomings, but for a small internetting device it’s really quite nice.

That’s an iPad? I’ve seen the little keyboard cases that flip out, but never a full case that transformed it into an Apple Chromebook (yes, I want Steve Jobs to roll in his grave at that)
Not bad. Our home laptop has slowly turned into the photo/video storage machine and not much else. The one where we turn it on so infrequently, it runs slow for 3 hours because it has to update.

It’s a full-on hard shell case that easily detaches from the keyboard if you want to use the iPad separately. It’s quite rugged as well. It’s made by Zagg. Also came with a stylus that I don’t use. I just have to get used to scrolling on the screen. I keep trying to use the non-existent trackpad beneath the keyboard.

I’ve said it before, Starbucks is a terrible place to go for a cup of coffee. But the misto is pretty good, with enough steamed milk that you don’t taste the bitter coffee. As it is, I’m just idling here while my boys are at band rehearsal.

I only put milk in my coffee at Starbucks. Everywhere else I take it black. Starbucks drip coffee is terrible by itself.

Even if you’re not a hipster, you kinda have to camouflage yourself when you’re living in their jungle.

I have an iPad that used to be my wifes which makes an awesome travel personal machine. I can’t do any non-work stuff on my work laptop but the iPad is good enough that I don’t carry my personal laptop on shorter trips.

I’m going to NYC for a long weekend in December, and I’m thinking of taking this instead of my laptop. It would be easier on the plane, and the battery life is significantly better.

Starbucks coffee is rubbish, go find a Peets at least!

Starbucks is a terrible place to get a cup of coffee. But with enough steamed milk in it, it’s passable. I usually drink it black. But Sbx was convenient. Never heard of Peets.

That’s why I do it. Between it for watching movies on the plane and my phone for moving around I don’t have much use for my laptop when I travel anymore.
I even forgot my iPad charger last time I traveled to Chicago - 3 days and the iPad got me through the flight, movies in the hotel room and the flight back with 20% left on the battery.

Not as hipster as I at the local coffee shop a couple weeks ago. Raised quite a few eyebrows. And yes I got real work done on it.

I usually take my laptop so I can back up my camera to it, as well as an external drive. I’m not taking my cameras on this trip, and any pictures I take will be with my phone, which will sync to the iPad. I think I’m talking myself into it...

Working on a quote for an organ rebuild. Excel Mac 2 .0 I think (c.1991) . Also drove there in my period correct Jaguar (c. 1985)

That is the worst part of it , when I take my camera I still don’t bring a laptop anymore because now I have even less room in my bag (because then I usually also bring hiking boots and gear) so I can’t really review any pics until I get back which sucks.
I had a lenovo yoga 13" laptop I used to travel with that was light and had decent battery life but the screen went bad on it so I sold it after I fixed it.

Is that Austin TX or an Austin organ?

It’s a large 1916 Austin organ in Chicago that may be coming back to life. I don’t think it’s been played in at least 30 years. It was by an order of magnitude the biggest proposal I’ve ever written.
